The kind that makes you furiously take notes, and leave with a list so long it gives you a low-buzzing anxiety. That was me last week. I was at an e-commerce summit, sitting in a room with founders who have built 8 and 9-figure brands. And I mean — I learned so much. The conversations were generative, the energy was electric, and I left that day feeling genuinely expanded. I also left feeling scattered. Questioning myself. Running mental comparisons between where they are and where I am with Inner Code. Wondering if I was moving too slowly, doing too little, missing too much. The room didn't make me feel behind. My own lack of discernment did.This issue is an invitation to slow down long enough to ask: what's actually meant for me right now? I caught myself doing it the moment I got home. Sitting at my desk, notes open, highlighter in hand — ready to implement everything. The AI-generated UGC strategy. The influencer seeding framework. The paid acquisition playbook. All of it felt urgent. All of it felt like a gap I had to close. But here’s what I realized: The advice that works for a founder at $50M doesn't always apply to a brand that's still finding its footing. And following it anyway — just because it came from someone credible, in a room that felt important — isn't ambition. It's noise dressed up as a signal. The specific thing I had to learn is this: Not every piece of advice from someone further along is relevant to me right now. When I actually sat down with my notes — I realized most of what I'd written wasn't for this season of Inner Code. Discernment isn't about closing yourself off to new ideas. It's about knowing which season you're in, and refusing to be pulled out of it prematurely. The hardest part of being in a room with people who are ahead of you isn't the comparison — it's the convincing. You convince yourself that their path is the right one, that their tools are the tools, that their timeline is the benchmark. And then you go home and start rebuilding something that was already working. Real discernment asks: is this a signal for now, or for later? What would pursuing this actually cost me — in energy, in focus, in the thing I'm already building? And what does my gut say when the room gets quiet?
